United States of America: Senior Communications Manager


Social Impact (SI) is a Washington, DC-area international development management consulting firm. Position Description:


The Senior Communications Manager plays a lead role in implementing Social Impact’s recently developed Communications Strategy. This is an important, new, role that develops communications, media and marketing materials that build the company’s brand and positions it as a seal of excellence in planning, monitoring, evaluation and capacity building services. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer but requires liaison and effective partnering across the organization in order to be successful.


Responsibilities:



  • Is responsible for the execution of Social Impact’s recently developed communications strategy. Over time, updates and refreshes that strategy with input from internal and external stakeholders.




  • Oversees the development of SI’s new Corporate Website. Serves as the liaison between the website developer and SI staff to facilitate timely completion of the new website. Once the new site is launched, coordinates with company leadership and staff to ensure that content is refreshed regularly and reflects corporate priorities.




  • Writes and/or oversees the preparation, production and dissemination of both routine and complex outreach products that promote the strategic and timely flow of information and key messages about Social Impact to key internal and external audiences and across all communication platforms. Engages external service providers to support this effort as needed and as resources permit.




  • Writes and edits communications materials including success stories, blogs and other briefing materials.




  • Ensures that the new brand and style guide are implemented and used broadly.




  • Responsible for producing and overseeing multimedia materials for US and global dissemination through web, broadcast and other outlets. Outsource or consult with relevant external specialists (firms/individuals) on the needs of the particular project and to ensure its successful execution.




  • Initiates and sustains effective professional relationships with key internal and/or external constituencies.




  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all SI marketing and communication materials and tools. Ensures marketing materials are up to date and available for dissemination.




  • Serves as the primary point of contact for specific marketing events/opportunities. Develops communications packages for use at such events including but are not limited to: brochures, factsheets, video, table-top displays, give-aways with SI logo, etc. Participates in marketing events as requested.




  • Establishes and maintains SI’s presence in other digital media such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.



Qualifications:



  • Master’s degree with a preference for graduate level work in journalism, marketing or communications.




  • At least 5 years of professional experience covering various aspects of marketing and communications. Ideally this would be in an international development context though this is not required.




  • Experience in writing and editing.




  • Experience managing and overseeing projects.




  • Experience with Mailchimp or Constant Contact, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Publisher and a website content management system such as WordPress a plus.




  • Proficiency with MS Office.




  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dead line driven environment.




  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.




  • Knowledge and experience working in international development, monitoring & evaluation and cultural sensitivity a plus.
