Broadcom Corporation currently has an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Applications Engineer to utilize their hardware, systems, and technical applications engineering skills to provide support to Tier 1 customers in the Enterprise and Core Ethernet switching market.In this role, you will be required to become an expert in the architecture of our network switching devices. You will interface with customers and Field Applications Engineers to provide pre-sales and post-sales support for these devices.Broadcom offers a fast paced, exciting work environment, and as such you should enjoy a variety of work tasks and be a quick learner.
Fundamentally, your role is to help secure customer design wins and help these customers bring their products to market rapidly and successfully. You will contribute directly to the success of the products and customers that you support. You will be involved in many of the following duties and responsibilities:
– Support of architecture and low-level hardware questions and issues
– Pre-sales and post-sales support via email, phone, and customer visits
– Analysis of customer architecture and requirements
– Debugging of complicated issues and problems
– Schematic and layout design reviews
– Documentation
– Product definition and roadmap
– Training of customers and Field Applications Engineers
You will work directly with customers, and must have good skills interacting with and supporting these customers. You will also work with a variety of internal employees in Software and Hardware Engineering, Architecture, Field Applications Engineering, Sales, and Marketing.While most work will be performed at Broadcom offices, some work will be done on customer premises necessitating travel.
Requirements
Education: BS with 10 years, MS with 6 years, or post-graduate degree with 4 years in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science).
You need to be comfortable with the following:
– Comprehend and debug C/C++
– Debugging of complicated problems or bugs
– Direct customer interaction and involvement
– Register level programming of complex devices
You should have experience and/or knowledge in many of the following areas:
Applications Engineering
– Project or time management skills
– Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
– Training of customers and/or FAEs
– Ability to explain and train others on complex technology
Networking
– MPLS
– PBB/MAC-in-MAC
– VN-TAG/E-Tag
– Ethernet OAM/BFD
– Traffic Management/QoS
Architecture and Low Level Hardware/Software
– Architecture, programming, or support of complex System on a Chip devices
– Architectural trade offs (schedule/cost/time)
– System architecture experience
Communications
– Excellent written and verbal skills
– Strong presentation skills are desired
– Excellent team-work skills
Experience with development on embedded systems is a plus.Hardware (RTL), high-speed SerDes, or system (board) experience is a plus.
