This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent of this position serves as dormitory manager for approximately 50-60 students, responsible for supervising their activities during all periods outside of education and vocational training activities.

Serves in a Lead capacity as dorm property manager officer. Maintains dormitory order, discipline, and organization. Supervises, teaches, coaches, and participates in leisure-time recreational activities for students. Conducts individual counseling sessions to correct problems, or refers serious maladjustment problems to the group living supervisor. Conducts group counseling sessions. Plans and carries out assignments identified by supervisor. Handles problems and deviations in the work assignments. Provides ongoing orientation to new students. Provides information to the supervisor and guidance counselor on the need for special help and/or attention to a new student. Prepares written evaluations on student leaders and individual students.

GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Examples of specialized experience are: providing input in the planning of dormitory activities of students; maintaining order and discipline among students, observing and recording social behavior patterns to aid in counseling and or placement of students; documenting both positive and negative behavior traits; scheduling, coordinating, and supervising work details, recreational and other group activities including making reservations, acquiring transportation, and other related arrangements and providing information concerning these activities.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06. Examples of specialized experience are: serving as the assistant to the dormitory manager, providing on-site supervision of students to ensure a safe, healthy atmosphere; providing ongoing orientation to new students; participating with the supervisor and other residential living staff in setting performance standards, goals, and objectives for the dormitory, and following up with students to assure these standards are upheld; checking progress, performance, and behavior of students in assigned dorm in the educational and vocational programs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• May be subject to satisfactory completion of one year probationary or trial period.
• This position requires the selectee to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and therefore, is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. Final appointment is conditional on a negative drug test. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
