Description:
Are you ready to build a world-class, technology-infused agriculture practice at a global international development organization? FHI 360’s TechLab is seeking a leader in agriculture who is excited about the opportunity to infuse appropriate technology into the farming and business practices of smallholder farmers, increasing their ability to adapt to the impacts of climate change, increase food security for vulnerable populations, and improve livelihoods.
You will be responsible for building FHI 360’s expertise and visibility in the ICTforAg sector, and will have the freedom to develop the sector strategy, focusing on three core areas: new business development, technical assistance, and thought leadership. You will bring a strong understanding of agricultural market actors, value chains, and systems thinking. In this effort, you will be supported by the scale and reach of FHI 360’s global staff of practitioners, as well as the TechLab team, FHI 360’s development technology unit.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
New business development:
- Provide input and intelligence into FHI 360 business development strategies related to the sector
- Work with FHI 360 proposal teams on technical design inputs, partners, and staffing as necessary
- Cultivate relationships with partners and donors that work within the ICT for Agriculture (ICTforAg) sector
- Identify potential funding opportunities to support and grow FHI 360’s ICTforAg portfolio
Technical Assistance:
- Design, implement, and monitor innovative uses of ICTs in agriculture, food security, nutrition, and rural livelihoods to improve project efficiency and effectiveness
- Support projects by advising and designing technology tools to create access to market information, information on improved agricultural practices and advisories, digital financial services, etc.
- Design full approaches for the agriculture sector (including content creation, user training, etc.) and work with government, operational, and technology partners to create context appropriate solutions
- Scan, test, and assess the latest technology tools and approaches related to agriculture and rural development and share on a regular basis with practitioners within FHI 360
Thought Leadership:
- Conceptualize and organize, in collaboration with TechLab staff, 2-3 thought leadership events related to ICTforAg in the next calendar year.
- Contribute to FHI 360 publications, articles, digital products, blog posts, and “Ask the Expert” sessions that build FHI 360 presence and expertise in the ICTforAg space
- Attend key conferences and events to share FHI 360’s work and share learning with colleagues.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in management of large projects and/or programs.
- 10 years of experience supporting agricultural practitioners through the deployment of technology is preferred, but experience primarily in ICTs or agriculture will be considered.
- Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia a major plus.
- Business development experience with USAID and other international donors required
- Demonstrated understanding of facilitation and market systems thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and coordinate multi-sectoral teams with diverse skills, perspectives, and geographic emphasis
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to travel internationally (up to 30%)
- Ability to work in high pressure situations with hard deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Has ability to manage projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.
- Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English (with additional language fluency preferred).
