The Organisation
Working in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas, Plan’s stated Global Strategic Goal (2011-15) is to reach as many children as possible, particularly those who are excluded or marginalised, with high-quality programmes that deliver long-lasting benefits. Plan aims to achieve this goal by working in partnership with others and through high performing teams whose behaviours reflect the corporate values. It has a global income of around $800m.
The Role
The role of the UN Representative is key to Plan’s ambitions and plans to be a key player on the international playing field – you will be key focus point for all advocacy work with the UN. You will play a crucial role in helping Plan deliver our Global Advocacy Strategy, providing strategic advice to the Director of Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns and other senior leadership in identifying the relevant points of influence.
The Person
You will be the kind of person that knows not only what committees and meetings Plan International should be involved in, but how to get representation on them and, more importantly, how to be listened to when you get there. You will know, or at least know how to find out, the key influencers are in the sphere of Child Rights and other relevant issues. A highly skilled political operator, you will be able to easily negotiate the complex workings of an organisation like the UN.
Whereas experience and understanding of the UN system is extremely valuable, we will consider applicants who have worked with other multi-lateral organisations such as the EU. You will have an extensive track record in advocacy and lobbying at an international level and have considerable experience in the NGO sector
