The New York State Assessment team is responsible for the administration of NYS exams for NYCDOE schools. The team, together with the broader Office of Assessment, oversees the operations, logistics, policy, scoring, data capture, and reporting for a suite of NYS testing programs, including the Regents, the Grades 3-8 Common Core ELA and Math, and the New York State Alternate Assessment programs.
The Support Systems Coordinator will oversee various aspects of NYS assessment programs, with an emphasis on providing timely and high-quality client support to the various constituencies involved in test administration and scoring, including school administrators, teachers, superintendents, borough field support center personnel, Central office staff, and representatives from the community, such as families or elected officials.
S/he will also test and maintain a suite of NYS Assessment team internal and public-facing web applications. This individual’s work will be critical to achieving desired program outcomes by ensuring the accurate, appropriate, and timely dissemination of assessment information and program guidance, and by ensuring that the team’s suite of web applications are robust enough to support user and program needs. In addition, the Coordinator will help drive program outcomes by producing a variety of reporting to track school adherence to program policies and monitor the completion of milestones. Key Relationships: Works closely with the Director, Associate Director, and Program Managers – NY State Assessments. The Support Systems Coordinator will also work with additional groups within the Office of Assessment, including all Assessment Implementation Directors, the Manager of Test Security, the OA Deputy Executive Director, the OA Chief of Staff, and the OA Communications Director, in addition to other Central teams, including borough field support center personnel and superintendent office staff, in addition to responding to inquiries from families and other interested parties from the community. Also establishes key relationships, and serves as the point for school-based personnel involved in test administration and scoring.
Responsibilities
Designs and compiles status and completion reports to track school progress in meeting benchmarks, e.g., training participation and scorer assignments, which may inform future funding decisions for schools.
Investigates and responds to inquiries from schools, families, and elected officials regarding student scores on State exams that are used for promotion, graduation, and college-applications.
Manages, chronicles, and archives the support provided by the NYS team through various program email inboxes (e.g., regents@schools.nyc.gov , elamath@schools.nyc.gov , nysaa@schools.nyc.gov ) to ensure that all incoming questions from families and the field are timely and appropriately triaged and responded to, according to program-specific policy guidelines. Coordinates feedback sessions for schools and on behalf of school communities to assess the successes and challenges from each NYS team project. Serves as a liaison between the Office of Assessment and other NYCDOE agencies, e.g., DIIT, ATS.
Designs and creates reports that ensure the proper distribution, utilization, and collection of citywide educational testing materials for the grades 3 – 8 ELA and math Common Core exams and the January, June, and August administration of the Regents exams.
Prepares written analysis and reports that synthesize citywide data to advocate on behalf of NYCDOE in conversations with NYSED regarding application, interpretation, and/or potential revisions of existing policy as necessary, and shares updates with school communities via information sessions.
Creates materials and leads trainings for school-, central-, and field-support staff regarding policy, operations, and systems for all NYS team programs.
Drives continuous improvement to program processes, trainings, systems, and communications through the identification, analysis, and escalation of support issues from families, schools, the field, and other interested parties.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

Excellent analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to think strategically about program design and implementation; receptive to and acts on feedback.
Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including comfort with all standard functions, pivot tables, data validation, and advanced formatting techniques.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and precisely in both written and oral communications.
Experience building strong, mutually-beneficial relationships with other individuals and teams; sensitivity to the needs of diverse constituents.
Demonstrates uncompromised service, impeccable execution and follow-up, and a commitment to answering incoming questions.

Preferred
Familiarity with and relationships with key personnel involved in the administration and scoring of NYS exams, including Borough Assessment Implementation Directors, principals of scoring sites, superintendents, and key scoring personnel.
Knowledge about the school administration and central scoring processes for one or more NYS assessment programs, and familiarity with assessment-related workflows required for schools and central teams.
Experience working with data pertaining to teacher and student performance.
Internal candidates preferred.
Salary: $48,768+
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)
