Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. Summary of Position
Search for Common Ground seeks a professional, motivated, and creative intern fluent in written and spoken Arabic to report to the Executive Director of Common Ground Productions. Common Ground Productions (CGP) is SFCG’s media production company, which produces innovative TV, film, and radio programming using popular culture to create social change. Based in Washington, DC or remotely, the intern will provide support to CGP’s Madam President television series, which is currently being broadcast in across MENA and the Gulf. Duties of this internship will include curating the Madame President Facebook page and website.
Interns must be available to work part-time (20 hours per week) and must commit for 6 months. We are looking for an intern to begin as soon as possible – July/August 2016.
Responsibilities:
- Professionally maintaining and consistently updating Madame President’s social media presence, including website engagement and Facebook page in Arabic
- Tracking social media engagement using Google Analytics to measure impact.
- Assisting with donor reports and other communications.
- Collaborating with other departments, including SFCG’s MENA team.
- Performing other supportive duties as needed.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- BA or MA (completed or in progress) in international relations, conflict resolution, Middle East studies, international development, or a related field.
- Native-level fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) is required.
- Interest in peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
- Familiarity with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) context.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment with minimal supervision.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and willing to take on tasks small and large.
- Prior experience with impact-driven online outreach and social media management.
Salary: This position is unpaid.
