United States of America: Photography and design intern


Chemonics seeks a photography and design intern to support the Washington, D.C. Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) project. FEWS NET is a leading provider of objective, evidence-based food security analysis. Created in 1985 in response to famines in East and West Africa, the project currently covers about 36 countries. Funded by USAID, FEWS NET implementing partners include NASA, NOAA, USGS, USDA, Kimetrica, and Chemonics International, which manages the Washington technical office and more than 20 field offices in Africa, Central Asia, Central America, and Haiti. This position will last for a period of four months from date of hire. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.


Responsibilities include:


  • Organize, edit, catalog, and add metadata to FEWS NET photographs to build a comprehensive library

  • Transfer the modified photo library to an online platform

  • Assist with designing FEWS NET communications products

​Qualifications:



  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program from an accredited university with at least two semesters of photography and/or design coursework required; journalism major preferred




  • Knowledge of image editing software including but not limited to cropping, resizing, and color manipulation required




  • Attention to detail




  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks




  • Knowledge of Adobe Design Suite and Lightroom software preferred




  • Ability to work effectively within a close-knit and collaborative multidisciplinary and multicultural team




  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
