The Student Health Center provides comprehensive health services for students within the RIT community. Based on an integrative health model, including mind, body and spirit, services and programs are designed to enhance the ability of students to maintain health and to develop the necessary life skills to be informed and active health care consumers. A diverse professional staff provides direct clinical care, campus-wide educational activities for health promotion, and serves as a proactive resource for the well-being of the larger community. Detailed Job Description:
- Provide strong leadership and supervision of clinical functions in the daily delivery of care/services to students.
- Plan and coordinate assignments and scheduling processes for daily clinical operations.
- Monitor adherence to clinical operational policies and procedures.
- Assess/evaluate/treat health care consumers independently and/or collaboratively.
- Participate in the selection and training of clinical staff
- Provide leadership/support/assistance and supervision of nursing staff including performance appraisals.
- Assist in planning and general management of Center as member of SHC Management Team.
- Assist in the development/implementation/interpretation of Departmental/Institute/regulating agencies policies and procedures.
- Identify appropriate vendors and maintain pharmaceuticals/medical supplies and equipment in sufficient quantity for the Student Health Center.
- Oversee the presentation and maintenance of clinical areas/equipment.
- Assist in the cultivation and maintenance of effective working relationships with the Counseling Center, Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, Center for Residence Life, Student Wellness, RIT Ambulance and other health care providers.
- Coordinate and/or provide annual training for staff in CPR, blood borne pathogen education, etc.
- Develop and implement campus-wide health initiatives in collaboration and cooperation with other Student Health Center, Divisional and/or Institute staff.
- Provide health education to individuals and groups.
- Serve as liaison and health care resource to students, other Institute units and the larger medical community.
- Identify needs and assist in the development/implementation of professional growth activities and other priorities with the Department/Division/Institute through participation in committees and/or special assignments.
- Contribute to other processes for the general welfare of students; promotion of team building; delivery of quality comprehensive clinical services; health education program planning and implementation as deemed appropriate and/or as requested by the Executive Director.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- New York State RN License: active and in good standing
- 5 years related experience with two years of recent nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory health care
- Supervisory, organizational and managerial skills for operation of an ambulatory clinic
- Knowledge of federal, state and local health care regulations and standards
- Communication, counseling and presentation skills
- Must have/learn ASL
- Experience with electronic health record and other relevant computer applications
- Skills as defined by the approved professional training program for a Registered Nurse
- May be required to work occasional evenings (11 am to 7 pm) and weekends for orientation activities/open houses/wellness programs/etc.
