The selectee will serve as an Investigative Support Assistant in the Office of Investigations, Denver Field Office. Typical work assignments include:

  • Preparing reports, correspondence, and official messages; preparing time and attendance records; and answering phones and processing incoming and outgoing mail.

  • Opening, closing and maintaining case files; processing and tracking evidence; and providing administrative support to Special Agents in the areas of investigations, protection, counterfeit, asset forfeiture and financial crimes.

  • Conducting preliminary searches and inputting data into computerized criminal databases to develop background information; and tracking and compiling criminal history statistics and reports.

  • Assisting agents in compiling and composing time sensitive information; preparing preliminary surveys; acting as a liaison to local, state and other federal law enforcement agencies and officials; and sharing information and providing assistance.

You qualify for the GS-6 level (starting salary $38,216) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level performing duties such as: preparing reports and correspondence; conducting searches and inputting data into computerized criminal databases; and responding to inquiries.


You qualify for the GS-7 level (starting salary $42,468) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-6 level performing duties such as: retrieving and compiling investigative reports using a variety of law enforcement data systems to process and track evidence; and creating and maintaining investigative case files.


National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Conditions of Employment If selected for this position, you will be required to:


  • Obtain and maintain a top secret clearance. Completion of a single scope background investigation is required before appointment.

  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.

Your application will be rated on the extent and quality of your experience, education and training relevant to the duties of the position. If you meet the minimum qualifications, a score will automatically be calculated based on your answers to the vacancy specific questions to place you in one of three categories. The competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform this job are:

  • Knowledge of procedures, regulations and practices pertaining to administrative functions.

  • Knowledge of administrative, operational and procedural functions relating to protective and intelligence cases.

  • Ability to use computer applications and computerized criminal databases for search and retrieval techniques to assist agents, detect trends, prepare reports and statistics.

  • Ability to communicate findings by preparing and articulating information for law enforcement officials, employees and outside entities.

Best Qualified: Applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position and demonstrate high proficiency in all of the critical competencies, including all Selective Placement Factors (SPF) and appropriate Quality Ranking Factors (QRF) as determined in the job analysis. 2. Well-Qualified: Applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position and demonstrates acceptable proficiency in all of the critical competencies, including all SPFs and appropriate QRFs as determined by the job analysis. 3. Qualified: Applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position and demonstrate basic proficiency in most critical competencies, including all SPFs and appropriate QRFs as determined in the job analysis. If you are best qualified, you may be referred to the hiring manager for consideration and may be called for an interview.
