POSITION DESCRIPTION:


Responsible for the design, development, and management of training curricula for the Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) at the Task Force for Global Health. Works closely with both internal staff and external stakeholders (grantees, partners, subject matter experts, contractors, and vendors) to build and manage instructional offerings. Develops and manages both traditional classroom training and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) course content. Uses instructional design methodology to develop training, job aids and other learning materials. Works in collaboration with multimedia developers to develop training materials. Identifies and sources external contractors and vendors to meet project needs. Applies adult learning principals in the assessment, recommendation and delivery of training. Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs and recommends changes as appropriate. May represent and promote the organization at various speaking engagements. Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by Task Force management. Performs other related duties as required.


BACKGROUND:


The Public Health Informatics Institute is a program of the Task Force for Global Health, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Our staff is comprised of professionals in the areas of public health, healthcare, information systems and communications—all well-versed in the current and emerging issues facing public health. The Institute is known for its expertise as a neutral convener of public health professionals and their stakeholders, transforming health practitioners’ ability to apply information effectively in order to improve health outcomes worldwide. In January 2011, the Institute launched its Public Health Informatics Academy with the mission to train public health practitioners in fundamental public health informatics principles/concepts and tools. The Institute is widely recognized among public health practitioners and partners for our focused training initiatives and programs, building much-needed informatics capacity in the public health enterprise. Our training programs range from hands-on requirements initiatives, where participants learn to apply the tools and techniques of the CRDM; to the development of both synchronous and asynchronous competency-based Applied Public Health Curriculum, freely available to schools of public health for informatics certificate and degree programs; to the training of various levels of public health practitioners on how to develop and manage an informatics project.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Public Health Informatics Institute Senior Training Consultant is responsible for the design, development, and management of training curricula. The Senior Training Consultant works closely with both internal staff and external stakeholders (grantees, partners, subject matter experts, contractors, and vendors) to build and manage instructional offerings. The Senior Training Consultant has the expertise to develop and manage both traditional classroom training and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) course content.


Curriculum Management


· Translates Institute principles, methodologies and public health informatics best practices into training courses and/or materials appropriate for a variety of audiences including public health leaders, program managers, legislators, physicians, etc.


· Recommends revisions and improvements to existing training courses; provides proposals for new training strategies and implementation plans, as needed.


· Serves as liaison with outside agencies in the design and development of instructional materials.


· Evaluates and recommends new technology.


Staff Development


· Leads teams in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Academy offerings.


· Coaches staff/audience members (individually or collectively) for improvement in communication/presentation/delivery skills.


Instructional Design & Development


· Assesses training needs of the public health workforce and develops curriculum and training courses to meet those needs.


· Designs and develops asynchronous content for web-based and mobile environments.


· Plans, develops, and conducts training sessions in traditional face-to-face format as well as virtual formats (webinars).


· Participates in and is responsible for the development of instructional materials. Oversees the quality and the evaluation of instruction materials.


· Provides feedback (individually or collectively) for warranted improvements in communication/advocacy skills including focusing upon audience needs, interests, and readiness.


· Works in collaboration with multimedia developers to develop training materials.


· Ability to identify and source external contractors and vendors to meet Academy project needs.


· Evaluates training effectiveness.


· Works with faculty to develop instructional materials for delivery in traditional face-to-face, web-based, and mobile environments.


· Researches and develops case studies based on real public health event(s) for delivery using computer and distance learning technologies.


· Works in collaboration with multimedia developers to develop instructional materials.


Other Responsibilities:


· May represent and promote the organization at various speaking engagements.


· Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by Task Force management.


TRAVEL – 10-20% domestic and/or international travel is required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, public health education, or related field. Five years of professional training experience. Strong organizational, consultant and facilitation skills. Strong time management skills. DDI, Vital Smarts and/or CPLP certifications preferred.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


· Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, public health education, or related field.


· Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work-related priorities.


· Experience in learning technology design, tools, and practices, and user interface/experience design.


· Strong in-person and virtual facilitation skills.


· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects


· Strong oral and written communication skills


· Proven ability to interact with both staff and related public health faculty as part of an interdisciplinary team.


· Current knowledge on pedagogical issues related to education and technology.
