– Maintains payroll subsidiary records and ledgers, which includes but is not limited to, the processing of journal entries, posting, reconciliations and file control. Prepares financial, statistical, tax and regulatory reports and tax returns relative to payroll; reviews reports and returns for accuracy.
– Maintains thorough knowledge of payroll procedures, guidelines and Lawson Software programs in order to properly interpret processes and verify payroll information in compliance with Cooperative policies and procedures. Reviews, analyzes and evaluates Lawson Software Payroll programs and make recommendations for ways to expedite and simplify existing processes and suggestions on necessary new processes. Contacts applicable personnel and coordinates implementation of authorized changes/improvements.
– Coordinates time entry with the personnel assigned responsibility for time entry.
– Trains employees responsible for timekeeping on new procedures and interpreting the bargaining unit contract in matters relating to overtime pay, and other payroll and per diem issues. Tracks and reports all Workers’ Compensation time charges to appropriate personnel.
– Prepares payroll related working papers required by independent and governmental auditors and assists auditors during the audit process. Analyze overtime and double time to provide feedback to senior management on budget issues.
– Trains subordinates in accounting methods, policies, procedures and the use of computers relating to payroll processing functions. Assists in the appraisal process of assigned personnel.
– Works with Budgeting & Financial Systems Manager and IT in planning and testing of Lawson software upgrades and updating policies and procedures as necessary. Performs other such duties as assigned and completes training necessary to maintain or enhance job performance.
– Prepares supporting documentation for payroll and applicable taxes in developing Cooperative budget for accounting unit “SMECO”.

Required Skills
Two year college degree or equivalent, with emphasis in accounting and business administration.
Fundamentals of Payroll (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or obtained within twelve months of position award.
Required Experience
Minimum six years progressive experience in accounting and payroll, with an emphasis in payroll, along with proficient personal computer (PC) skills. Some supervisory experience required.
