Field Maintenance Supervisor - Pittsburgh Pirates - Pittsburgh, PA





Job Summary

This position works closely with the Manager, Field Operation and is responsible for identifying field maintenance and equipment problems, in addition to: recruiting and managing Game Day Staff and Seasonal Supplemental Staff.


Requirements


Primary:


  • Day-to-day management of the Game Day Staff and the Seasonal Supplemental Staff including, but not limited to: assisting with scheduling; mentoring and training; and providing input on the performance management of incumbents in these roles.

  • Work closely with and assist the Manager, Field Operations on all field and equipment maintenance activities.

  • Provide field preparation for non-baseball related events, including but not limited to, run the bases, concerts and corporate events, to include but not limited to, batting practice and corporate softball.

  • Identification and reporting of all field and equipment maintenance problems including: fertilizers and pesticides; irrigation; infield surfaces; packing clays; water management; tarping techniques; and equipment operation.

  • Maintain and ensure that the playing field is up to the professional level of the Pittsburgh Pirates and MLB standards.

  • Ability to work special events independently and make decisions that affect field conditions (i.e., ability oversee corporate partner events on the field and provide independent guidance on what is permitted in the moment, etc.)

  • Perform snow removal from around the ball park perimeter during the off-season.

  • All other duties as assigned by the Manager, Field Operations.

  • Secondary:

  • Coordinate with other Pirates’ departments as directed by the Manager, Field Operations.

  • Assist with field operations at Pirate City or other Pirates’ owned locations as requested.

  • Required:


  • Two-Year or Associates Degree in Horticulture, Turfgrass Science, or equivalent experience and knowledge of environmental turfgrass management practices including pest, disease, and weed management.

  • Prior professional baseball field management experience.

  • Prior experience in field management for non-baseball events

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Desired:

  • Prior experience in maintaining turf equipment.

  • Experience with natural turf, with cool season turfgrass experience preferred.
