Reporting to Project Director, the Youth Development Specialist will oversee the delivery of the teen pregnancy prevention workshops.
The New Jersey-based Center for Human Services (CHS) office operates under the US-based Health, Education, and Training Programs division. Job Responsibilities:
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with faith-and community-based organizations
- Conducting orientation meetings with parents of youth 11 to 13 and their 11- to 13- year old children for the purpose of recruiting youth for a teen pregnancy program.
- Participate in training of trainers
- Managing the pool of trainers, to include observing and assessing their training delivery and providing constructive feedback
- Establishing and managing the training workshop schedule and maintaining and replenishing training materials as needed
- Developing and fostering healthy relationships with youth participants
- Providing role modeling for youth participants
- Participating in periodic in-service trainings on youth development and adolescent sexuality
- Serving as backup trainer, as required
- Contributing information to facilitate the writing of project reports.
- Performing, as assigned, other activities deemed appropriate by the Project Director, that will enhance participant services and achieve the project goals.
- Managing and tracking the distribution of incentives to youth and parents
- Serving as the liaison to other CHS projects
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral, Social or Health Science, Psychology, Public Health or related discipline
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
- 4 to 5 years of work experience in youth development
- Demonstrated ability and interest in working with youth
- Ability to effectively discuss the benefits of the teen pregnancy prevention intervention to parents, youth, and leaders of faith- and community-based organizations
- Ability to deliver training curricula
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve
- Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work well independently and in teams.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of program (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database entry
- Ability to provide effective follow-up on individual activities in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Track record of being able to produce work in a timely manner with flexibility when necessary to adapt to changing work conditions.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Reliable transportation to travel to meetings throughout Cumberland County
