United States of America: Senior Technical Advisor


GENERAL FUNCTION


Internews is recruiting a Senior Technical Advisor to lead an anticipated 24-36 month global project to support civil society-led investigations and efforts combating endemic, high-level corruption. The Senior Technical Advisor will provide high-level technical guidance to inform project strategy and activity design, and will oversee the delivery of technical assistance to international, regional, and local investigative journalism centers, associations, and networks as well as anti-corruption NGOs. The Senior Technical Advisor will be instrumental to achieving the following project objectives:


  • Expanded global partnerships and mechanisms for information sharing between and among pre-existing networks of investigative journalists and editors, and anti-corruption NGOs.

  • Increased effectiveness of civil society led investigations, including investigative journalists, independent media entities, and anti-corruption NGOs in uncovering and reporting on corruption.

  • Increased levels of legally actionable information on corruption available for use by watchdog organizations, governments and international organizations.

  • Increased effectiveness of anti-corruption and transparency NGOs in using uncovered information to pursue and/or facilitate action by government and international organizations to combat and deter corruption.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Act as a primary point of contact with investigative reporting partners for the project’s activities.

  • Act as primary designer of training and mentoring programs for beneficiary partners.

  • Liaise with resource partners to identify and inject quality technical inputs in various subfields of investigative reporting.

  • Contribute substantively to the design and implementation of the annual project work plan and M&E plan.

  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reports to funders.

  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • A minimum of 10 years professional experience in investigative journalism, anti-corruption reporting, and advocacy on anti-corruption issues.

  • Existing contacts and networks with investigative journalists and/or anti-corruption campaigners in developing countries highly desired.

  • Expertise with digital and operational security and data journalism tools and methods highly desired.

  • Foreign language skills highly desired.
