METER SERVICE FIELD MECHANIC – WATER DISTRIBUTION & MAINTENANCE

$33,336 – $41,670 a year




This position installs, tests, maintains and repairs water meters; and performs related technical work as required. The incumbent works within a general

outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Installs and tests meters for accuracy;

  • Locates and uncovers meters as necessary;

  • Repairs and/or replaces meters as necessary;

  • Conducts water pressure and flow tests;

  • Flushes service lines;

  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment;

  • Trains and oversees all work completed by other meter technicians;

  • Performs all work in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety;

  • Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance from customers, contractors and the general public regarding areas of

    responsibility;

  • Prepares and submits detailed work records and reports;

  • Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering

    the telephone, completing forms, etc.;

  • Attends training, meetings, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills; and

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or GED;

  • Two (2) years of relevant prior experience;

  • Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is considered medium-to-heavy in nature and involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing or raising objects and also involves

exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
