About Green Empowerment:Founded in 1997, Green Empowerment (GE) is a Portland, Oregon based 501(c)3 that works with local partners around the world to strengthen communities by delivering renewable energy and safe water. Though our unique model of long-term engagement with local NGO partners and the communities they serve, we empower local leaders to design and implement integrated projects that improve human well-being, are sustainable over time, limit the impacts of climate change, and have the potential for broad impact beyond any one community. GE facilitates the provision of needed technical, organizational, and financial assistance to build the local skills and capacity required to sustain and expand program impact and results. We currently work with 12 core partners across 7 countries on a daily basis (Ecuador, Kenya, Malaysian Borneo, Nicaragua, Peru, Philippines, Thailand/Myanmar)—many of these relationships are entering their second decade. Green Empowerment also engages local and regional governments and a diverse constituency of volunteers, universities, civic groups, and businesses to expand projects, broaden skill-sets, and mobilize resources for our NGO partners. Over the last 18 years, this approach has resulted in 25,000 people with clean electricity in their homes, 22,000 with clean water to drink, over 228,000 people with access to clinics and schools powered by renewable energy, and 2,579 acres of tropical rainforests and watersheds conserved.


About this Position:The Asia/Africa Regional Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for ensuring high quality, participatory program development and implementation that reflects the needs of local communities, are aligned with the technical and organizational capacity of GE and its partners, and deliver measurable, documented results aligned with Green Empowerment’s mission, values, and donor requirements. Collaborating with Green Empowerment field staff and NGO partners, he/she leads the design, funding, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Green Empowerment’s community-based renewable energy and water projects in Asia and Africa. It is a full time position in Portland, OR, with occasional travel to project sites.
