Duties:
The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking a BC/BE Dermatologist to provide all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient/telemedical care. Our facility provides services to veterans living in a 15-county area of Michigan and northwest Ohio and also serves as a referral center for specialty care. Highly qualified candidates are needed to lead, give direction, and provide knowledge, skills and abilities in the Dermatology field. This position requires employment as a faculty member in the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology, with a 5/8ths effort devoted to the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Thus the successful applicant must have credentials and research publications that will allow the candidate to obtain a joint appointment with the University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Dermatology. Incumbent will provide dermatological patient care to veteran patients. This would include prescribing medications, performing skin surgical procedures, biopsies, laboratory requests and treating patients in an outpatient clinic setting and by tele-dermatology. Experience in store-and-forward and live video tele-dermatology is preferred as this will likely represent a significant portion of patient care in this position. Experience with all forms of phototherapy including excimer laser is preferred. The position is for a consulting dermatologist who receives referrals from other dermatologists and other providers and rarely if ever refers patients to other dermatologists. In addition, incumbent will provide teaching/guidance to rotating residents, fellows, and medical students and train other professional staff in the Dermatology Service. The selected candidate will also serve as a liaison to primary care and internal medicine within the VA Health System. In addition, the selected physician will be expected, with the approval of the Chief, Dermatology Service, to develop an area of individual expertise that will benefit veteran patients and the Dermatology Service; related publications are encouraged. Opportunities for performing basic science research exist. The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is primarily affiliated with the world-renowned University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Health System and Medical School. We offer residency training in major medical and surgery specialties and sub-specialties. Associated Health Training is also offered in various fields.
