Duties:
This position is for part time Staff Physician in the Geriatric, Rehab Medicine & Extended Care Health Care Group (GRMEC) at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in Long Beach, California. The Staff Physician is Board Eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) and will provide services to the outpatient PM&R clinic. Clinic duties will likely involve some weekend and early evening clinics.  Additional collateral duties may be assigned limited to the abilities and privileges of the provider depending on the needs of GRMEC or the PMR Service.  The PMR Physician is expected to demonstrate advanced competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of men and women needing rehabilitative services. The duties and responsibilities of the Physician include but are not limited to the following: tThe position provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including patient assessment, history, physical examination, and patient/extended. tFunctions as an integral part of a PMR program and residency, supporting the Chief to coordinate, facilitate, and provide a comprehensive section serving the needs for the Veterans and the facility as well as serve as a role in the educational mission.tRecord/document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic tests and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter; recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS), and will be completed within 24 hours of the encounter.tInvolvement in coverage for inpatient PMR referrals is also be expected.tRespond to computerized “Alerts indicating diagnostic test abnormalities and to MyHealtheVet/Secure Messaging requests from veterans/family members on the day of receipt (weekends excepted); follow pertinent guidelines including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry, National VA Formula requirements and Customer Services standardstWorks efficiently with patients, families, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other VALBHS staff, demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands, adhere to personal and professional obligations and responsible, practice and ethical standards, and sustain a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented.tConducts him/herself in a professional manner treating patients, visitors and staff in a courteous manner.tParticipates in fire and disaster drills.tCompletes appropriate evaluation and paperwork for special incidents such as medication errors, falls, injuries, adverse drug reactions, etc.tParticipates in the continuous quality improvement program and attend meetings as directed. tIs familiar with and complies with all national standards utilized at this medical treatment facility, including VA Performance Measures and Monitors, Joint Commission, and NCQA standards.
