Position Summary


The Program Associate -MENA will provide programmatic support including writing, research, finance, administrative and data analysis assistance to Freedom House Middle East and North Africa (MENA) programs. In addition, this position will be the lead liaison from Washington, DC to Freedom House’s Amman, Jordan Office, a role requiring frequent communication, program oversight, and backstopping with staff in Amman. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Senior Program Manager for MENA programs.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, or related field

  • Three years related experience in a professional setting

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Preference for those also able to work professionally in Arabic or French.

  • Experience with financial management and budget tracking

  • Strong understanding of human rights principles, democracy promotion, and international NGO grant processes

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa region. Preference for those with experience working in the region.

  • Adept with MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to collaborate with great cultural sensitivity and work as an effective team member

  • Completes administrative tasks and tight deadlines with a great attitude

  • Works independently and maintains great organization with minimal supervision

  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times

Some Duties and Responsibilities


  • Communicate regularly to oversee and provide support as needed to the Freedom House staff and programs based in Amman, Jordan

  • Provide research, writing, and data analysis for development opportunities in MENA countries

  • Contribute to the drafting of reports, proposals, and press releases as required

  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating programs on a regular basis

  • Assist in financial management, including preparation of draft budgets, budget tracking, and requests for funds

  • Create, maintain, update and analyze team databases for contacts, vendors and others as assigned

  • Assist in developing and producing promotional material on the programs

  • Organize logistics for travel, events, and meetings in DC and abroad related to Freedom House Middle East and North Africa programs

  • Other related duties as assigned
