Fingerprint Examiner - Manatee County Sheriff's Office - Bradenton, FL





Receives, evaluates, marks, classifies, submits, and compares hard copy and electronic ten-print and palm impressions utilizing Automated fingerprint identification System (AFIS). Assigns personal identification numbers to prints, which serves as a tracking tool for the identification process including aliases. Prepares and submits logs and reports of findings and workflow. Obtains ink print impressions from the public as well as major case print impressions from deceased bodies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Ability to accurately enter and / or retrieve information from various computer systems and/or programs in a timely manner

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information.

  • Ability to generate written documentation in an accurate, concise, legible, and timely manner as required by the position.

  • Ability to classify fingerprints and to file and search fingerprint records.

  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions.

  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in obtaining, examining and comparing ten-print impressions to make proper identification.

  • Skill in the use of office equipment including computers and various software applications.

  • Skill in taking quality finger, palm, and foot prints.

  • Skill in identifying and comparing prints.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Tasks and Policies:


TASKS


  • Maintains records, libraries, and office files.

  • Evaluates hardcopy and electronic ten-prints and palm prints to determine sufficient quality for entry into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). Classifies prints and enters them in database utilizing identification numbers.

  • Searches databases and performs inquiries into local, state or federal criminal information system to verify identity. Marks identified matches. Finds, tracks and reports aliases.

  • Takes, records and maintains fingerprints, palm prints and foot print impressions of offenders as well as persons requiring fingerprint verification including employment, wrongful name use and identity theft.

  • Successfully completes all assignments to specifications, within specified timeframe and budget as directed and in accordance with agency policies and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Uses leave in accordance with General Orders; communicates and cooperates with management in providing proper notice of leave; patterns and amounts of leave usage (not including legitimate, properly scheduled and approved leave and protected leave).

  • Volume of work accomplished is consistent with position requirements and produced within quality tolerance standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Completion of 40-hour fingerprint classification course

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
