WFP is currently recruiting for the position of Business Development Professional for WFP’s Business Development team. This position reports to the Senior Business Development Manager, Donor Engagement. This position is based at WFP’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Business Development Professional will be instrumental in our goal to grow to an annual budget of $30M by 2018 and cultivate relationships with corporate, foundation and individual donors to maintain and generate donations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
- Manage and develop a portfolio of donors that give up to $100K per year initially with the objective of increasing contributions each year. Grow the total net worth of the portfolio to $500,000 – $1 million annually.
- Support business development strategies to maximize the giving potential of a defined portfolio of individual, corporate and foundation donors to achieve or surpass WFP’s annual revenue goal. This will require communication with donors (emails, and phone calls) and direct asks for financial support.
- Manage and engage WFP Ambassadors (former Board members) through formalized communication and consistent outreach.
- Work to accurately communicate organization’s immediate and long-term funding priorities with donors.
- Personalized acknowledgements to donors after renewing their commitments to WFP.
- Become deeply familiar with each account’s special needs and with WFP’s strategy and assets in order to maximize the partnership potential of each account.
- Leverage activity of Business Development to deliver engagement opportunities for these donors to ensure that their financial and non-financial support is maximized.
- Meet with major gifts team to establish engagement plans for donors and prospects.
- Work to research, develop and draft formal funding proposals and reports as required by each account.
- Actively identify and research new prospects and follow-up as appropriate.
- Track and record all donor details, meetings, interactions and prospect research consistently, using the constituent database Raiser’s Edge and regularly monitor account progress through the donor pipeline.
- Develop formalized communication plan and strategy for position’s portfolio and review annually. This may include bi-annual corporate appeal campaigns, program highlight newsletter, etc.
- Support and attend conferences, trade shows, events where WFP is present, as required.
- Present at speaking engagements as opportunities arise.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience is required
- 3 years’ work experience in an office setting
- One year directly related experience in non-profit sector, preferred
- Experience using Raiser’s Edge database, preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationally to developing countries, where travel is rugged.
- Normal office environment.
- This is a full-time position based at WFP Headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
