Job Summary:
Lead and execute new ‘donor engagement’ initiatives as requested by the VP Leadership Giving and/or the EVP, Charitable Giving (CG). Assist CG staff in working effectively with volunteers. Serve as team leader for assigned Regional Development Directors (RDDs). Also responsible for the solicitation of major gifts from individuals and the development and implementation of programs and activities designed to secure financial support from individuals through gifts at the $10,000 level and above. The Sr. Regional Development Director will have responsibility for part of the geographic region that includes the Northeast region.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as requested to assist the VP, Leadership Giving and the EVP for Charitable Giving in planning and other management functions of the Major Gift Unit and the Charitable Giving Division.
- Serve as team leader for an assigned group of RDDs with the responsibility for leading team conference calls and meetings, providing coaching; consultation and other assistance to team members; approving timesheets; developing and reviewing annual performance plans and conducting staff assessments; and other related duties.
- Solicitation of major gifts of $10,000 and above, with emphasis on 6- and 7-figure gifts and pledges.
- Manage a portfolio of major giving donors and prospects in order to attain specific annual goals.
- Create and implement strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit major donors, to sustain and expand the portfolio of major donors, and to provide effective stewardship and recognition for major gifts.
- Develop and manage a volunteer network to assist in fund raising activities.
- Facilitate appropriate donor interaction with CRS senior and executive management.
- Participate in prospect rating, tracking, and management using the PledgeMaker donor database.
- Prepare proposals, letters, call reports and acknowledgments.
- Lead efforts in setting major giving policies regarding portfolio assignments, reporting, use of resources and prospect relationships.
- Promote the overall effectiveness of the Major Gifts Unit.
- Perform related activities as required.

Strong capacity for independent action, particularly the ability to work from home and rely upon an administrative structure located in the Baltimore, MD headquartered office
Excellent verbal and writing skills
Comfortable with extensive domestic travel and making annual overseas trips with donors
Curiosity, sense of humor, high energy level, and an enthusiasm for meeting and working with a wide range of individuals
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field.
Between 10 -15 years’ experience in development or related field, major gift fundraising preferred
Proven track record of accomplishment in fundraising including successful solicitation and closing of major gifts
Previous supervisory experience
Knowledge of philanthropy in the assigned geographic area
Team player who can also work independently in a complex environment
Working knowledge of prospect tracking systems and donor data bases
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to travel extensively
Physical Requirements/Environment:
