Position Senior Vice President of International Programs (SVP, IP)

Position Summary:
The SVP, International Programs has overall strategic and operational responsibility for RI’s international relief and development programs and plays a critical role in helping RI achieve its vision to provide high quality programs internationally through the use of the RI Way methodologies. The SVP, IP manages Regional Directors and Program Management teams to ensure consistent and effective internal program management processes and communications and to strengthen RI’s programs and position the organization for continued success. As a key part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) the SVP, IP drives the overall strategy for the organization at field level and represents RI nationally and internationally.
Reports to: The Chief Executive Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Leadership and Strategic Plan Implementation:
- Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes with the CEO, the SMT, and staff.
- Provide effective and inspiring leadership to ensure alignment of RI’s programs with RI Way methodologies.
- Partner with the CEO and other members of SMT to ensure alignment of organizational priorities at the different levels of RI’s structure.
- Coordinate closely with Technical Assistance and Program Development departments to ensure that RI’s program development and implementation are guided by RI’s vision and strategy.
Program Management Leadership:
- Ensure high quality implementation of RI’s programs to meet community/participant and donor expectations – on quality, on time, on budget.
- Provide oversight to Regional Directors and technical coaching to program teams at regional level as they implement the strategic plan and ensure quality in program operations.
- Report accurately and regularly on progress made and challenges encountered to allow for timely solutions.
- Work to expand the capacity of all staff with an emphasis on developing highly effective national capacity in planning, program development and project management.
- Ensure the continued financial viability of RI’s operational units through sound fiscal management.
External Relationship Development:
- Manage and cultivate existing and new relationships with funders to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.
- Publicly represent RI with the media and external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations and build excitement for RI’s mission.
Performance, Accountability and Learning
- Support enhancement of organizational excellence by establishing, monitoring, and constantly communicating operational benchmarks, timelines, towards the achievement of the strategic goals.
- Develop and implement, and constantly maintain a robust Monitoring and Evaluation system for tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan implementation.
Location specific role – if based in the UK
- Provide general oversight to UK office and performs necessary representation with UK government and other statuary and INGO boards as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
Applicants should possess:
- Master’s in international development, social sciences or a related field
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with INGOs at field as well as HQ levels with a minimum of 3 years of experience on a senior level.
- Proven track record of success managing relief and development programs internationally including in fragile states, emergencies and developing countries.
- High level of organization and decision-making skills working in a fast-paced work environment
- History of developing and mentoring teams and communicating vision to program managers and country directors
- Professional interest and experiences in senior international programs
- Excellent communication skills, written, oral and listening;
- Experience in remotely managing a team of 7 or more members
- Creative with the ability to think outside the box
- Experience managing and developing US, UK, EU and UN programs
