Position Overview
Malaria No More’s success depends on a highly targeted, flexible and innovative digital and content strategy. The only way we’re going to beat this disease is with the increased awareness and active engagement of our core audiences in donor and malaria-endemic countries. That means building an active and interactive relationship with target audiences around the world. Malaria No More has a history of innovative marketing, but we want to make sure our web presence and our digital and content strategies are adapting with the times. We want to make the most of emerging technology platforms, creative partnerships and new approaches to content.
The Senior Strategist, Digital Communications and Content will work closely with the communications and advocacy teams to help mobilize political will and resources for the malaria fight. The Senior Strategist will define and shape MNM’s use of the web, social media, digital content and email, as well as our partnerships with leading technology companies, to actively engage our target audiences in the cause of ending malaria for good. The Senior Strategist will be responsible for developing overall digital engagement and content roadmaps and driving innovation across all channels. The role involves community management and content creation, as well as support for campaigns, events and other key milestones in the malaria fight. The Senior Strategist will be responsible for ensuring brand alignment across all content, developing a measurement and evaluation plan, and tracking and reporting progress to members of the leadership team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and drive MNM’s overarching digital and content strategies in alignment with broader advocacy and communications goals
Oversee strategy, editorial calendar and management of MNM’s online channels (social media, blog, email) including:
- Grow MNM’s online community and manage day-to-day interactions, such as responding to comments, participating in discussions, answering online queries, thanking donors and supporters, and interacting with partners
- Produce, write and design content, publish content, and manage community reaction
- Work with staff on the ground to expand MNM’s online presence in Asia and Africa
Serve as Malaria No More’s brand manager to ensure consistency across all mediums
Create compelling visuals by communicating guidance to graphic designers and creating simple graphics
Manage MNM’s digital presence, including building new websites and managing/updating existing websites
Serve as lead contact for marketing, creative and developer agencies, including drafting creative briefs, overseeing content development and helping to manage contract negotiations
Manage constituent database of email subscribers, donors and supporters
Develop strategies for brand integration with leading digital media and merchant partners
Network with other leading social organizations to cross-promote and develop joint campaigns
- Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in digital communications and provide strategic counsel to the organization on when and how to engage
- Identify KPIs across all channels and develop programs to ensure targets are reached
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 7+ years of experience in development and execution of digital and content strategies
- Exceptional ability to develop strategies, manage projects and collaborate across teams
- Proven track record of successful digital campaigns, content development and innovative approaches
- Deep understanding of audience targeting and experience developing content with an audience-first approach
- Innate passion for digital technologies and deep interest in the evolution of online platforms
- Strong design sensibility and experience creating or overseeing creation of compelling visuals in alignment with brand
- Experience managing various social media properties on a daily basis
- Deep understanding and prior use of analytics to shape strategies
- Expert-level knowledge of web languages, open-source content management tools, Google Analytics, search engine optimization and Facebook ads
- Experience with Google AdWords and other ad platforms
- Experience overseeing the development of web/digital properties, both internally and with partners or vendors
- Experience using online fundraising and email communications tools
- Innate curiosity and desire to learn about malaria and global health
- Proven ability to take initiative in a self-directed environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Outstanding writer able to create content for a wide range of voices and digital properties
- Innovative, flexible thinker willing to take risks
