Duties:
The White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont is seeking a full-time faculty position for Chief of Pulmonary Medicine to join the section at the White River Junction VA Medical Center. The individual should be BE/BC in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine and have a strong commitment to teaching and patient care. Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient and inpatient pulmonary consultation, attending in a multi-disciplinary ICU, interpreting pulmonary function tests, and performing diagnostic bronchoscopies. In addition, board certification in sleep medicine is desirable. The faculty member will be expected to participate fully in the education of Pulmonary and Critical Care fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and medical students. Excellent opportunities are available for those with interest as well in a variety of research areas, particularly health services research in collaboration with the VA Outcomes Research Group.
The Medical Service Mission is to lead satisfied staff dedicated to providing high quality patient centered care at the White River Junction VA hospital. The Chief of Pulmonary Medicine is a supervisory position that supports this mission through administrative leadership, direct patient care, and input on the oversight of the Section’s educational and research activities. She/he is a full-time employee appointed on a Excepted Service Appointment, with expectation that tenure will span several years. The physician will be eligible for a professorship at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.
In addition to observance of Federal national and local regulatory policy, and accreditation requirements governing this Health Care System, this position encompasses the following examples of responsibilities overseen by their Section Chief.  Physicians require appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practices, education, and research.
