Background Information:
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas in developing countries. It does so by financing projects and programmes that increase agricultural productivity and raise rural incomes, and by advocating at the local, national and international level for policies that enable poor rural people to overcome poverty.
The Partnership and Resource Mobilization Office (PRM) is responsible for resource mobilization and for developing and strengthening the Fund’s partnerships with Member States, multilateral organizations, philanthropic foundations, private sector entities, civil society and other non-state actors. It also ensures corporate outreach and engagement, , provides technical support for partnership and resource mobilisation, and funds oversight and administration.
The Americas Liaison Office (ALO), within PRM, has two linked offices located in Washington D.C. and at UN Headquarters in New York.
Its objective is to advance the Fund’s overall mission and mandate through its partnerships and engagement in the Americas. ALO advances IFAD’s corporate objectives through its relationships with IFAD Member States, UN agencies and international organizations, resource mobilization, strategic policy engagement, the development of new partnerships with the private sector and other non-state actors and heightening the visibility of the Fund.
Purpose:
The purpose of the IFAD Internship Programme is to expose recent university graduates or students to IFAD’s work and to and give them better knowledge of the United Nations and international development.
Duties and Responsibilities and output expectations
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Americas Liaison Office and the close supervision of the Partnership Officer, the incumbent will:
· Attend as observer meetings and events of relevance to IFAD’s mission and that of the ALO, drafting summary reports of proceedings, outcomes and highlighting possible areas for follow up;
· Perform research and analysis on political trends, in particular with respect to issues relating to international development aid, innovative financing, agricultural and rural development, and other relevant fields.
· Assist in the organization of events, workshops, etc., aimed at enhancing the visibility of the Fund.
· Prepare background information to facilitate participation by the partnership officer in meetings and events, including drafting talking points and/or presentations as required.
· Perform other related duties as required.
Content and Methodology of the Supervision:
Regular planning sessions will be held between the intern and the direct supervisor, to organize activities and ensure clear understanding of expected outputs. Continuous feedback will be provided by the supervisor to encourage learning and professional growth.

How to apply:
Eligibility and education
Candidates must be 30 years of age or younger, and be enrolled in a university or graduate school, have attended courses in the last 12 months, and have completed at least two years’ undergraduate studies when joining IFAD through the programme; or have completed their university studies at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in the past 12 months
Education: Graduate or undergraduate studies in one of the following fields: international affairs; public administration and policy; agricultural and rural development; international relations; international development; political science, or a related field.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic or French or Spanish is an asset.
Skills: 1. Excellent research, analytical and writing abilities
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Results-oriented team contributor, with the ability to work independently as appropriate
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word, PowerPoint (effective charts, tables, and diagram-style) and Excel (with the capability to process data and create graphical charts).

Interns will be paid the equivalent of an all-inclusive lump sum amount of US$600 per month, less any payment received from a sponsor (if any). The payment will be pro-rated for periods of less than one month on the basis of 30 days per month.
