Meter Reader work activities involve the following tasks: The ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of walking (5 to 8 miles per day), climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching. To routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Understands and operates hand held computer to read water meters on the assigned route and records readings. Reads water meters and record accurate reading of water consumption used by utility customers. Utilizes hand held computer for work orders to reports meters needing repair, and replacement. Checks for meter tampering, and identifies and reports unauthorized connections. Duties performed outdoors, with exposure to the elements, insect and animal bites, and potentially hazardous conditions. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Maintains job safety standards (personal protection equipment, etc.); complies with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules; trains new team members on safe work practices. Regularly attends required safety, job related and certification training classes as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
). High school graduate or GED.
2). Valid State Vehicle Operator’s License.
3). Map reading ability.
4). Ability to maintain and utilize handheld computer.
5). Interpersonal skills are a must in dealing with other employees as well as direct customer contact.
6). Demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
7). Hold or be able to obtain valid Class 2 Water Distribution Certificate issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.

Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally
Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, inclement weather.
