Attention: This is a continuous recruitment that is posted periodically to develop an applicant pool for future openings. We are currently accepting applications, recruiting for an E-911 Dispatcher Training class.
Typical Duties:
(After Training) Operates automatic call distribution telephone workstation to receive emergency (911) and non-emergency calls. Determines type, location, and extent of emergency. Types information from caller into computer terminal. Codes messages where appropriate. Relays information electronically to dispatcher, appropriate personnel, or other agencies. Assists callers with basic life support procedures. Operates a Computer-Aided Dispatch System to dispatch calls according to set protocol. Dispatches emergency equipment and personnel to scene. Operates a dispatching radio console workstation. Reads maps and gives directions to location of the incident. Performs assigned tests of communications equipment. Attends training sessions as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
YOU MUST MEET ALL THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED.
1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
2. Must be a citizen of the United States.
3. Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
4. No convictions or guilty pleas or have entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge,
or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances. (Tenn. Code Ann. 7-86-205)
5. Not have been released or discharged under other than an honorable or medical discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.
6. Must have a valid Class “D” Driver’s License.

Able to wear a headset and sit/stand for long periods of time
Notes:
Emergency Telecommunications Officer 1’s are provisional (Non-Civil Service) employees. After successful completion of training with at least a standard evaluation, incumbents will begin their six (6) month probationary period.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS: PLEASE READ THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS BEFORE PROCEEDING
The process begins when you apply online. This is a three (3) part process and each part must be completed successfully to continue in the recruitment.
Step 1 If you meet the minimum qualifications you will be sent an e-mail notice to self-schedule to attend the Orientation. IF YOU DO NOT SCHEDULE THE ORIENTATION or DO NOT SHOW UP TO THE ORIENTATION, YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. You MUST attend one of the Orientations in order to be eligible to advance in the process .
(Tentative Orientation dates 1/21/16 – 1/26/16).
Step 2 After attending the Orientation, you will receive an e-mail notice to schedule the Criticall test. IF YOU DO NOT SCHEDULE AND/OR DO NOT SHOW UP TO TAKE THE CRITICALL TEST, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE PROCESS. We will not automatically schedule any candidate; therefore it is important that all applicants show up for their scheduled test date and time . You MUST PASS the Criticall test in order to be eligible to take the ECOMM test. (Criticall Tests: Tentatively 2/4/16 – 2/9/16).
Step 3 ECOMM test – After passing the Criticall test, you will receive an e-mail notice to schedule the ECOMM. IF YOU DO NOT SCHEDULE AND/OR DO NOT SHOW UP TO TAKE THE ECOMM TEST, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE PROCESS. We will not automatically schedule any candidate; therefore it is important that all applicants show up for their scheduled test date and time .
(ECOMM Tests: Tentatively scheduled for 2/18/16 – 2/19/16).
If you successfully pass the ECOMM test your name will be placed on an eligibility register which will be used by the Emergency Communication Center to select candidates for the training class.
If you successfully pass all phases of the recruitment process, you will be required to provide clear copies of the following documents upon request of the hiring department, if you cannot provide these documents when requested you will not be eligible to be considered: 1. Birth Certificate 2. Valid Driver’s License 3. Social Security Card 4. Proof of Education (High School Diploma or GED).
