ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Parent & Community Coordinator is responsible for organizing outreach to families and identifying those who want to make a systemic impact in their community. The Parent & Community Coordinator is responsible for identifying, recruiting, educating, and empowering families and teams of families on school choice issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment and Organization Building
Recruit and develop a core group of families to mobilize on school choice issues.
Develop and execute recruitment plan with measurable goals and key benchmarks.
Develop and execute parent education and mobilization plans for targeted campaigns.
Plan and execute targeted actions such as rallies, events and letter writing campaigns to support special initiatives.
Management and Training
Provide leadership trainings and materials to core group of supporters.
Develop educational materials and training modules for core supporters and stakeholders.
Manage information through a database management system.
Represent the organization at neighborhood, school, and community meetings.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Passion for school choice and the Families Empowered Mission.

Comfort with technology: Well versed in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn how to use a case management / community engagement database.
Action-oriented: You must love getting people together to take action. You must be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and know how to motivate others to get out of theirs.
Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills (for emails, letter writing, etc).
Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional weeknights and weekends; ability to travel and work remotely; driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Multi-tasker: Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment, while driving toward clarity and solutions.
Organization and planning: Plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient, productive manner. Focuses on key priorities.
Experience in community, labor, political or parent organizing
NICE TO HAVES
Spanish language fluency (verbal and written).
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both in an office environment and in the community (field work).
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
