The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.


This position is an School Information Assistant (Office Automation) with the Department of Defense Domestic and Dependent Elementary School (DDESS). The Student Information Assistant (OA) performs a variety of school administrative support functions, such as student registration, student attendance, academic records maintenance, and other related processes. Enters, retrieves, and manipulates data in the student information management system.


This is a full-time/temporary position, NTE 30 June 2016, in the Excepted Service.

DUTIES:
Responsible for new student registration. Assembles and distributes to families student registration packets. Receives and reviews completed packets to assure all forms and data are complete. Receives data and enters into the student information management database to include new student enrollment, discipline and attendance data, school and student scheduling information, report cards and transcript information, and athletic eligibility for all students. Works in coordination with the administration to construct in the student information management system a viable school master schedule for teachers, e.g., times for preparation periods, lunch times, classroom teaching, etc. Sets up directories for teachers and student classroom schedules. Enters course selections for new and returning students. Implements data collection techniques for collecting and electronically transferring student grades. Collects and transfers grades into the student information management system through the use of the electronic grade book software. Prepares reports for school administration and other personnel from the student information management system database. Submits school data extractions per district, area and headquarters school data extraction schedule. Prints from the student information management system database and mails home-bound information packets and maintains electronic and hard copy files of all school reports, generates awards for attendance, honor roll, etc. Prepares a variety of letters, messages, memoranda, reports, charts, school bulletins, and other correspondence using typing and automated word processing equipment and other various software programs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
For the GS-05 level : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/AD-04 grade level in the public or private sector. Specialized experience: is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which include, but is not limited to the following: working in an office setting, using a computer and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and creating correspondence, filing, and typing 40 WPM.
OR
Education: have a Bachelors Degree or 4 full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree. (Education must have been obtained in an accredited school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR
A combination of Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified.

In addition to meeting experience and/or education requirements, applicants must include a certificate of proficiency or self-certify that they can type at least 40 words per minute. Your resume must support your self-certification of your typing ability, otherwise, you may not meet the minimum qualification requirements for this position.

The normal full-time work week is 35-40 hours and the normal work year is 12 months. Part-time work is pro-rated in crediting experience. An applicant demonstrating 20 hours per week for a 12 month period wold be credited with 6 months of experience.
Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.
