Chemonics seeks a Washington D.C.-based manager for the Employee Relations Department (ERD) housed in our Human Resources Division. The employee relations manager is responsible for managing employee relations cases and initiatives, working closely with all levels of staff across the company and maintaining the utmost confidentiality. The manager is expected to demonstrate clear understanding in employee relations, including legal compliance with applicable workplace laws, regulations, and Chemonics policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Builds partnerships with management, divisions, regions, and individuals on solving problems and implementing resolutions concerning performance management, corrective actions, policy interpretation and violations, work place challenges, or other HR issues.
• Coaches and advises staff on employee relations, policy, employment issues, and workplace challenges.
• Makes HR-related presentations, trains staff, coaches and mentoring through one-on-one sessions, small groups, corporate training programs, and sharing information through a variety of forums.
• Advises on employment actions for expatriate and third country national staff to ensure legal compliance with applicable regulations, and provides guidance on Chemonics policies, procedures, and compliance.
• Leads initiatives and projects such as the employee recognition program, wellness, intranet content, and/or corporate donations requests.
• Interprets the policies and procedures of Chemonics, USAID, and other federal agencies and provides advice accordingly.
• Participates in and supports the documentation of investigations of workplace complaints and allegations such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, and policy violations.
• Conducts exit interviews, analyzing trends or opportunities for feedback or improvement particularly in areas related to employee engagement.
• Manages relationships with external clients, vendors, partners, and consultants as needed.
• Mentors, develops, and evaluates junior staff or colleagues. Ensures that staff receives regular performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and time and opportunity to grow professionally.
• Consistently demonstrates and promotes Chemonics’ performance competencies, with special emphasis on building trust and serving others.
• Continues to develop understanding of and articulates business operations and focus.
• Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation and exceeding expectations.
• Actively supports or participates in new business activities and proposal teams, when appropriate.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of human resources or technically relevant work experience required
• Prior employee relations experience and international development experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• English proficiency required; foreign language skills preferred
• Knowledge of applicable workplace laws, regulations, and employment trends.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills, discretion, and ability to manage confidential information.
• Demonstrated independent thinking, sound judgment, integrity, and respect for others
• Ability to form strong workplace relationships at all levels of the organization.
• Experience living or working in developing countries preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of USAID and its operations preferred.
