Chemonics seeks a Washington-based operations associate to join the Middle East regional business unit. The operations associate and the rest of the Operations team work closely with the Senior vice president to support the region’s projects and staff by developing and implementing staff satisfaction and professional development initiatives, supporting the management of the region’s projects, recruiting and hiring personnel, managing the region’s corporate budget, and planning team building activities. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
• Monitors staffing requirements, workload, and job satisfaction issues within the region or profit center
• Oversees home-office recruitment process for associate positions and others, as designated
• Screens candidates, conducts interviews and reference checks, and prepares all necessary paperwork for hiring
• Assist with coordination of formal performance evaluation process and informal feedback mechanisms
• Coordinates planning for the annual retreat and other social and professional activities
• Completes administrative tasks for the region or profit center and senior vice president while briefing the senior vice president on pertinent operational issues
• Oversees administration and sharing of staff travel and leave schedules
• Coordinates with office services and computer support departments on division facility, equipment, and supply needs
• Maintains knowledge in own discipline and begins to expand versatility in international development work by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and Chemonics’ practice networks
• Contributes to technical practice of relevance to areas of interest or focus, sharing information and best practices learned with the company
• Participates on proposal teams
• Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations
• Receives constructive feedback and uses feedback to improve performance and grow professionally
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience with ability to handle routine tasks and operational issues
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
• Willingness to travel and work abroad in the Middle East Region a minimum of 4 to 8 weeks per year; experience living or working in developing countries preferred
• Strong administrative skills, word processing abilities, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to follow standard practices and procedures, receive general instruction and supervision on work progress, and make significant contribution to end results
• Able to work on one or more projects and provide support to proposals
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving and initiative to learn new skills
• Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
• Language proficiency in French or Arabic strongly preferred
