United States of America: Senior Advisor - Health Systems Strengthening

ThinkWell is seeking a senior contributor to join our team. The incumbent will be responsible for program management and technical contributions to a set of projects, and will lead and contribute to business development activities.


Responsibilities


Technical assistance (35%)


1 Deliver quality and creative technical assistance to a set of assigned health systems projects. Keep updated on global best practices. Provide sound technical counsel, adapting global best practice to local and project context. Areas of technical assistance may come from the following, or may be developed: health financing (including supply- and demand-side mechanisms), governance and human resources for health, in both the public and private sectors.


2 Prepare various written products of high quality including assessment reports, progress reports, technical reports, and marketing communications. Contents may be researched or originated by incumbent, or may draw from work done by team members.


3 Analyze data sets gathered and produced via online research, field research, or by other team members. Prepare and deliver presentations using high quality data visualization approaches.


4 Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and counterparts (funders, government officials, private sector actors, peer consultants) in furtherance of project and business objectives.


Oversight of technical assistance/project management (30%)


1 Provide technical guidance to other team members to ensure delivery of quality assistance in their client interactions.


2 Monitor project deliverables and ensure their quality and on-time delivery, whether executed directly or by managing the work of other team members.


3 Plan, track and act on monthly project financial results to ensure spending is according to plan and allows for meeting deliverable requirements, making adjustments as needed.


4 Maintain familiarity with contract and agreement terms, ensuring their compliance, in consultation with the Finance and Compliance Lead.


5 Serve as a senior contact with clients for project progress updates, technical leadership and to develop future business opportunities.


Business development (35%)


1 Contribute to building ThinkWell’s portfolio.


2 Initiate and maintain relationships with current and target donors, including governments, foundations, prime contractors, and private sector players.


3 Forge partnerships with ThinkWell in a prime or sub role on proposal teams.


4 Act as lead writer on proposals. Provide technical input into proposals others are leading.


5 Support recruitment efforts, including sourcing and interviewing candidates.


6 Contribute to preparation of various deliverables in support of business development, marketing, and proposal development, including capabilities statements, past performance references and budget narratives.


Qualifications


1 Masters degree in economics, business, public health or other relevant discipline


2 Experience of advising governments and working with donors and implementers


3 Experience in health systems strengthening, with expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: health finance, governance, human resources for health, research and evaluation, market entry, or service delivery, in either or both of the public and private sectors


4 Experience managing teams


5 Experience of living and working in a low income, or low middle income, country highly desirable


6 Native or complete fluency in written English


7 Fluency in French or Portuguese a plus
