- Verify integrity of hull openings, i.e. hull valves shut and red tagged.
- Check oxygen (O2) levels throughout the ship to verify proper occupancy levels.
- Act as the ship’s Fire Warden.
- Routinely check bilge levels and other relevant parameters, as assigned.
- Perform hourly tours of the ship in the manner directed.
- Ride the ship during ship movements until re-secured pierside.
In addition, this position will be peformed within the Machinist Installation department. Other responsibilities will include using a wide variety of tools and machinery. The tools range from wrenches and screwdrivers to complex and sophisticated equipment such as saws, drill presses, optical equipment, mills, portable machines, boring equipment, precision grinders, instruments and lathes.
The ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs and move equipment to and from the job site, adequately stand watch, work in various heights, and work in confined spaces may be required.
Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance prior to start.
Basic Qualifications
The candidate MUST have five (5) years experience testing and conducting watch standing operations on SUBMARINE ship systems, or have equivalent experience on submarines, carrier nuclear/propulsion, or A-gang experience. The selected candidate must have knowledge of hydraulics, high air pressure, low air pressure, and Naval propulsion plant systems.

High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Additional work hours will be required during operational testing evolutions.
