The Fistula Care Plus (FC+) project is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by USAID which is working to strengthen health system capacity for fistula prevention, detection, treatment and reintegration in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
FC+ seeks an intern to provide research and program support to the development and enhancement of community engagement strategies to prevent and treat fistula in FC+ countries (primarily Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, and DRC). The position will be part-time based in EngenderHealth’s New York headquarters. Start and end dates will be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on his/her availability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with qualitative data analysis for research on health communications related to maternal health and fistula in Nigeria
Assist in identification and assessment of existing in-country initiatives, relevant networks and potential partner NGOs
Provide support in creation of an internal resource center/community of practice for EngenderHealth global community engagement efforts
Assist in needs assessments related to internal capacity development strategies
Support documentation and development of relevant tools and instruments
As needed, provide translation assistance (French)
Assist with logistical and administrative support for the preparation of meetings
Support the planning, logistics, and material needs of orientations on community engagement
Format documents as needed, respecting the project branding and marking plan.
Depending on qualifications and experience, some writing assignments may be given
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Currently enrolled in a graduate /post-graduate degree program relevant to public health, or international development, health promotion, social psychology, or sociology
Interest in global health, capacity development, health communication, reproductive health, maternal health, and/or family planning
Working proficiency in French (required)
Previous experience or coursework on conducting structured internet and online database searches preferred
Previous experience or coursework on qualitative data analysis preferred
Organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; capacity to communicate effectively with remotely-based colleagues and partners
