TITLE: Research Intern, Fistula Care Plus (FC+) Project

The FC+ project is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by USAID which is working to strengthen health system capacity for fistula prevention, detection, treatment and reintegration in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
FC+ seeks an intern to provide support to project research studies addressing:
1) Intrapartum and postpartum practices in managing obstructed labor;
2) Community members’ maternal health/fistula treatment knowledge, care-seeking, and experiences of care; and
3) Monitoring of fistula indicators in health management information systems.
The position will be part-time based in EngenderHealth’s New York headquarters. Start and end dates will be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on his/her availability. The intern will receive training and experience in the development and implementation of public health research, including health provider surveys and qualitative data analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct literature searches and assist with literature reviews for manuscripts and technical briefs related to FC+ studies.
Assist with qualitative data analysis in Atlas.ti for above-noted studies. Training in Atlas.ti will be provided if needed.
Assist in developing and implementing a health provider survey through SurveyMonkey, including developing respondent list and database.
Assist with development of relevant research protocols and instruments.
Assist with logistical and administrative support for research studies, including support for compliance with organization and donor research policies.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program in public health or related field.
Strong interest in global health, maternal health, and public health research.
Previous experience or coursework on conducting structured internet and online database (e.g., PubMed) literature searches preferred.
Previous experience or coursework on qualitative research/data analysis and/or survey design/implementation preferred.
Excellent writing and organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; capacity to communicate effectively with remotely-based colleagues and partners.
Experience using Atlas.ti or SurveyMonkey preferred.
