Position Summary


4/10’s 06:30 AM – 5:00 PM


Assists journeyman or apprentice workers in station construction and maintenance, assists with repair of equipment and machinery and cleaning.


The percentage of work assignments change significantly during outages. Typically they do not make off-site errands, but during outages, it changes to 30% per week.


Qualifications


Minimum:


  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License or ability to obtain one by first day of employment

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds a minimum of one time a day

  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Must be comfortable working at heights of over 250 ft

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule

  • Internal Candidates: Must have qualified on Physical Test Battery (PTB) and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) exams before applying

  • External Candidates: Must have qualified on Physical Test Battery (PTB) and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) exams before interviewing

Responsibilities


Uses grinder, sander, broom and rags to remove corrosion and rust from equipment; solvents to remove oil and grease; uses and moves hand held equipment, such as gauges, power supplies, volt meters by carts; assists technician in set-up and return of equipment.


  • Manually loads/unloads equipment, parts, supplies or materials; sorts materials and organizes by type, size, etc.

  • Operates parts washers, pressure washer, steam cleaner; uses rags and cleaning agents to clean components, such as valves, transmitters, and gauges.

  • Drives a service truck or other company vehicle to a warehouse; observes designated area when fire equipment is dismantled for possible fire hazards while walking or sitting.

  • Communicates with internal and external customers regarding safety, parts and repairs.

  • Uses hand tools and power tools to repair and assemble components that have been removed from equipment.

  • Works with metal, wood or plastic to build customized equipment parts; includes cutting and grinding metal.

  • Re-fuels vehicles or equipment, as needed.

  • Uses handwriting or computer to record completed work; records maintenance and repair histories, including all parts used; accesses electronic service/parts manuals and catalogs; writes down part names and serial numbers for ordering; maintains records on equipment, services and work hours.

  • Properly labels, maintains and stores hazardous waste accumulation (oily solids and flammables); fills, seals, labels and stores drums, as required; operates hand truck to transport drums to storage area; more during outage.

  • Performs off-site errands to pick up parts or make deliveries to designated vendor.

This task is performed only during outage, which occurs once a year and twice every three years. The outages normally last 30 days but occasionally goes as long as 63 days.

  • May operate hydraulic jacks, hoist or crane during removal and replacement of parts/ equipment or position personnel
