OPEN TO:
- U.S. residents currently living in the Denver Area who are legal U.S. residents, have independent work authorization in the U.S. and who submit their resumes and cover letters by the closing date. The covering letter must specify, using concrete examples, how you meet the essential requirements, i.e. education, experience for this position.
EMPLOYMENT TENURE:
This is a three year term position available, with a possibility of extension. The competitive staffing process may be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates for this position and similar positions with various tenures, including indeterminate, term, acting and temporary opportunities at the Consulate General of Canada-Denver. When you submit your application you must specify all types of employment tenures for which you wish to be considered, e.g., indeterminate, term, acting and/or temporary.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Reporting directly to the Head of Mission (HOM), performs a range of duties requiring the utmost discretion; provides executive administrative support services to the HOM; provides financial services to the HOM by tracking and monitoring the HOM’s budget; coordinates the HOM’s hospitality program, including event planning; undertakes briefing and research tasks; performs various cross-mission functions; as well as other tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the Education and Experience requirements listed below. Failure to meet any of the essential requirements eliminates candidates from further consideration in the competition.
EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of 4-year College diploma or degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
- A superior command of English is essential, including strong writing abilities.
- Ability to understand and communicate in French is desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least two years demonstrated executive assistant experience performing administrative tasks for a senior executive in a public or private sector organization.
- Experience in office and administrative procedures; researching and preparing well-written and accurate correspondence and other briefing products for managers; organizing public events; providing financial and expense reporting support services; handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
- Proficient in MS Office; Outlook, PowerPoint, internet research, databases, scanning and e-mailing.
RATED REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates who meet the Education and Experience requirements will be assessed on the following qualifications. The assessment may be a written test, an interview, an in-basket exercise, a skills test, or any combination of these methods.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of the Government of Canada’s international mandate, objectives and priorities, including Canadian priorities in the U.S.
2. Knowledge of the political and economic/trade issues – in the U.S. generally and in the territories covered by the Consulate General of Canada in Denver – that could have an impact on Canadian interests.
3. Knowledge of social media platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT (must be met):
Ability to obtain (or maintain) the required security clearance for a Government of Canada Reliability Status.

The assessment can include an interview, a written test and other tests that will consist of a series of questions designed to evaluate each applicant’s knowledge, abilities and personal suitability for the position. References will also be checked. All candidates are required to show proof of legal status to live and work in the US. Confirmation in post is subject to security clearance.

HOURS OF WORK:
Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week. Occasional overtime and travel will be required.
