Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare, LLC is a residential treatment hospital for adolescent males with intellectual deficits and psychiatric disorders. In addition to the residential treatment center, Liberty Point operates a group home for residents who also have intellectual deficits and psychiatric disorders and have the need for transitional and independent development. Liberty Point is nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and thrives in the hometown environment of Staunton, VA. Liberty Point residents are provided a wide range of services which are customized to both their individually diagnosed treatment needs as well as their general adolescent needs. Residents enjoy on an ongoing basis opportunities to interact with the Staunton Community through outings, community service, theaters, parks and recreation.The position of Direct Care Worker is directly responsible for the guidance and supervision of residents. Each DCW is responsible for ensuring the follow through of all identified and prescribed services for residents. This includes utilizing and carrying out crisis management procedures and interventions. The DCW position by its very nature must provide positive leadership, care and role modeling for the residents at Liberty Point. It is an extremely valued opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth. The primary focus is on encouraging constructive change and personal growth, learning positive ways to get appropriate attention, improving behavior choices, developing a sense of responsibility for actions, learning problem-solving skills, and developing thinking patterns that support positive relationships.
Requirements
Must meet at least one of the following requirements: 1. Have a baccalaureate degree in human services; or 2. Have an associates degree and three months paid experience working with individuals age 21 and under; or 3. Be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. and have six months paid experience working with individuals age 21 and under. Must have effective verbal and written skills; Ability to work all shifts as necessary; Ability to maintain resident’s confidentiality. Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit setting and responding to adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must be able to interact with all staff and residents in a professional manner. Must possess the ability to recognize situations and behaviors that need intervention, problem solving and decision making while providing effective communication. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to: 1. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds 2. Effectively use the full range of body motion 3. Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle with Care/Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training 4. Effectively perform facility approved First Aid and CPR techniques. A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record preferred. This is a full-time position for the Night/Evening Shift. Will work a combination of 2 8-hour days (11p – 7: 30a) and 2 12-hour days (7p – 7: 30a) in each Sunday-Saturday work week with 3-day weekends off every other week.
