Duties:
The Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, located in the near western suburbs of Chicago in Hines, Illinois, is seeking a full-time licensed Nurse Practitioner to provide mainly outpatient Gastroenterology care, but may include some liver related clinical duties. Candidate should be comfortable working independently, but will work closely with physicians in the GI Section as a mid-level practitioner.The Nurse Practitioner participates in the care of the patient’s medical needs and acts within the guidelines established by the supervising physician in their assigned clinical area(s), to ensure quality care of the patient. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: General evaluation of new and follow up patients in GI clinic, patient, family and staff education, ordering, interpreting and facilitating appropriate testing, consultations and procedures, maintaining or developing appropriate records and reporting systems. Will collaborate with and back up the other Mid-level Practioners in the GI section and participate in other duties within the GI Section as needed. Opportunities for participating in research related activities are available. The GI section operates in a collaborative fashion among MDs, Mid-level Practioners, Nurses and Clerical support staff and provides opportunities for individual input and project development in a teaching institution.Periodic assessment of patient care will be done as evidenced by any of the following: direct observation of the NP’s care; discussion of care with employee; review of medical records. The NP is directly responsible to the supervising attending in their assigned clinical area(s). Salary will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
