Responsible for the building & grounds maintenance, administration (budget, personnel and operations), and planning and development of Buffalo Bill State Park.
Supervise, mentor, train, schedule and review work product of Buffalo Bill State Park staff as they perform their duties and responsibilities.
Review, monitor and control amounts expended from site budgets to assure that expenditures do not exceed specified limits.
Participate in planning for the next budget period by compiling past expenditure figures and estimating future costs, including regular, expanded, major maintenance and interpretive fund requests.
Oversee fee program, ensuring all fees are collected, deposited and accounted for through completion and submission of weekly fee reports.
Oversee the management and protection of site cultural and natural resources.
Work within the guidelines of the Buffalo Bill Resource Management Plan.
Maintain vehicles, tractors, plumbing, electrical, water and wastewater systems.
Serve as the emergency management coordinator for the site to provide law enforcement, fire protection, first aid and assistance for staff and public.
Attend training to maintain certifications for safe application of pesticides and operation of public water and wastewater systems.
Direct subordinate staff in administering volunteer support programs by providing site-related training, direction and volunteer opportunities.
Provide assistance to local, county and state law enforcement, emergency and fire personnel as needed to protect cultural and natural resources. Monitor fire conditions and implement fire bans.
Responsible for training and keeping mandatory certifications up to date.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with three to five years of relevant experience, including hiring, performance management and supervision of permanent staff.
KNOWLEDGE:
Skill in construction, plumbing, and electrical trades pertaining to building, park facility and grounds maintenance, personnel management and budgeting.
Skill in vehicle and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
Skill in potable, irrigation and wastewater system operation and maintenance.
Knowledge of current DEQ and EPA laws pertaining to water and wastewater operation, maintenance and sampling.
Knowledge of weed and pest management.
Skills in commercial pesticide application.
Knowledge of current DEQ and EPA laws pertaining to pesticide application.
Ability to interact, communicate and educate with visiting public.
Ability to identify and correct natural and cultural resource issues.
Knowledge and skills wildland fire suppression techniques and practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Park Management ) PLUS Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Assistant Park Superintendent OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Assistant Park Superintendent Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Water Distribution Level 2, Wastewater Level 1 Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license, First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects in the course of routine park maintenance.
Must work outside in all weather conditions.
NOTES:
FLSA: Non-exempt
The following certifications are required within one year of employment: Water Distribution Level 1, Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license, First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
Housing, water, sewer and electric are provided. The Superintendent is required to live in the state housing.
Some work will be required on weekends and normal days off for security checks of the dam and other duties. Work is required on the three summer holidays.
