Concern Worldwide US (CUS) is an independent affiliate of Concern Worldwide, with offices in New York and Chicago. Our mission is to support the work of Concern Worldwide by financially supporting programs, representing Concern with national/international co-funders and organizations, facilitating the recruitment of personnel and raising the organization’s profile. Concern Worldwide US also engages in development education programs with the general public and with high schools in the US.
Role:
The Business Development Officer’s primary responsibilities include research and identifying new funding opportunities from US Government and multi-lateral agencies, representing Concern US in donor relationship management, and ensuring the preparation and production of high quality, complex and compelling technical and financial proposals.
The Business Development Officer will work as part of the Development Team and will report to the Director of Institutional Partnerships. S/he will work closely with Concern’s overseas staff including Regional Desk in Dublin and country teams in 29 countries worldwide.
The Business Development Officer will be expected to co-develop and implement a strategy that will increase Concern’s income based on targets set on an annual basis. S/he will identify new opportunities to maximize Concern US’s contribution to the achievement of the mission of Concern Worldwide.
Depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, the position may expand to include more high-level responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
· Identify US government funding opportunities and track new grant applications for Concern programs;
· Assist in the development of high quality, complex proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations;
· Monitor and report on USG funding trends, compliance issues and regulations,
· Supporting ongoing efforts to develop or revise internal US Government-oriented guidelines and procedures for business development;
· Network and build relationships with potential donors, partners and peer organizations;
· Liaise with Regional Desk in Dublin and Concern country program staff to provide guidance, support, and technical assistance on US Government business development;
· Conduct thorough reviews of all technical proposals to ensure they meet high copy edit standards, US Government compliance (including USAID and State Department), and solicitation-specific guidelines and deadlines;
· Ensure all budgets and financial reports are accurate, compliant and submitted in a timely manner.
Requirements:
· A minimum of three to five years working on US Government business development, including USAID cooperative agreements (contract experience a plus);
· Knowledge and experience of US Government proposal process, especially those of USAID (USAID/OFDA preferred) and State Department;
· Proven ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals, including cost proposals and budgets;
· Demonstrated track record in securing and managing US Government grants, including those from USAID and State Department;
· Excellent editing skills and attention to detail;
· A minimum of three years working for an NGO or donor agency, preferably with overseas program experience (language skills in French a plus);
· Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple and often competing deadlines;
· Demonstrated ability to conduct research analysis with accuracy and present in reader friendly format;
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a culturally diverse team environment;
· Excellent networking and communication skills;
· Commitment to the work and values of Concern;
· Willingness and ability to travel to Concern countries up to 20% as needed;
· Master’s degree in international relations, political science, public policy, or similar preferred;
· Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
