Position Overview


The Database Manager position will primarily be responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and analysis of the donor and development functions within Upwardly Global Salesforce database. Reporting to the VP of Development and working in tandem with UpGlo’s IT department, the Database Manager will manage and maintain Upwardly Global development and donor suite of services within the Salesforce database with an eye for clarity, consistency and accuracy – serving as department expert in Salesforce.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


· Strong analytical and problem solving skills with an interest in improving systems and business practices to help innovate growing data needs.

· Create standard best practices for the internal management of donor data including donor coding/classification, structures for campaigns/outreach, segmentation strategies and establishing a culture of data management for Upwardly Global development efforts. This work will be done primarily independently, but may also require collaboration and consultation with the IT Department to ensure the integrity of the overall Salesforce database.


· Conduct data searches and generate requisite analyses, summaries or reports (both standard and ad hoc) of donors, activities, financials, volunteers, etc.


· Design and generate custom reporting and set in place automated processes as necessary, particularly with a focus on identifying trends in fundraising activities


· Prepare all queries and train department staff on query development


· Manage regular data imports, in coordination with outside vendors


· Run regular data segmentation reports and counts to show efficacy of work


· Leverage internet and database resources to gather information on existing leads and accounts in [[http:Salesforce.com|Salesforce.com]] system.


Operational:


· In collaboration with Accounting, establish process to capture and report gifts (checks, credit cards, etc) in database. When needed, process credit card donations to ensure PCI compliance;


· Prepare buck slips (describing each gift) and acknowledgement letters to donors;


· Ensure constituent profiles are maintained accurately;


· Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation with Finance Department records;


· Ensure data and record integrity by routine management of the database


· Audit data entry for errors or incorrect codes


· In collaboration with IT, periodically review and de-duplicate and clean existing lists. Work with IT on any development specific data needs.


· Troubleshoot issues;


· Assist with events as needed;


· Coordinate fund development staff annual Salesforce training.


Knowledge and Skills Required


· 5+ years of experience in complex relationship management systems.


· A Bachelor’s Degree (Masters or other advanced degree preferred);


· Knowledge and experience using relational databases, and familiar with various reporting languages


· Solid understanding of the principles of database management and business process workflow, experience with member-based software a plus.


· Experience and/or knowledge of data conversion needs and processes.


· The ability to understand and work within the Upwardly Global organizational structure and find pathways to success working constructively with professional colleagues, using available resources to maximum benefit;


· Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, to set and stick to priorities.


· The ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Upwardly Global;

Work Environment/Physical Requirements


· This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10lbs


· Requires the ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally


· Must be available to work evening events and to occasionally work weekend sessions


· Must have reliable transportation depending on region
