United States of America: Senior Program Manager


BASIC PURPOSE: This position reports directly into the unit head and will provide direct and/or indirect supervision for technical program officers in unit in conjunction with the unit head. The person in this role will also bring his/her own technical expertise in the field of Global Health.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Make recommendations to the Executive director of Global Health regarding programmatic efforts.

  • Provide support and direction to Global Health program officers in Maternal and Child Health, Malaria, HIV and Congregational Health programs.

  • Build relationships with key partners within portfolio areas.

  • Conduct small workshops and webinars and make presentations to mid-size groups regarding programmatic work.

  • Represent Global Health with United Methodist Churches’ Health and Welfare Ministries.

  • Oversee Global Health grant making process.

  • Supervise directly or indirectly Global Health Program Officers and other staff.

  • Adept at managing relationships and projects in a church or faith based setting.

  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.

  • Expertise making strategic decisions based on tangible data as well as contextual information.

  • Knowledge and experience with strategic planning, grant making, project implementation, management and evaluation.

  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.

  • Experience and understanding of the Global Health field, including in global, regional and local contexts (particularly in developing countries)

  • A good coach who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.

  • Comfortable working in a faith based setting.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills essential.

  • Ability to be flexible in fast-paced environment and strategize under pressure.

  • Understand and respect cultural, religious, and political environments and use diplomacy when working with the staff, local partners, local authorities, and beneficiary population.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Master’s in Public Health or equivalent experience.

  • At least 7 years of experience with at least three years’ experience managing people.

  • Technical expertise in health programs is required.
