BASIC PURPOSE: The Leadership Development Office, through the vehicle of its Scholarship program, aims to identify and support young people from among our church and community partners around the world in their advanced studies to become agents of positive change in their home churches, communities and regions of origin. Our link to the students is of a long-term nature, recognizing that the most important work that they may do is in fact when they have completed their studies, and not just during the time of their scholarship awards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Become completely conversant in and responsible for the online application process systems, overseeing, managing and trouble shooting all aspects of its functioning.
- Be responsible for the assessment of the pre-screening process; review findings with Executive.
- Responsible to carry out higher level communications via email/phone negotiations or problem-solving as necessary with academic institutions, partner church personnel, visa offices, embassies, parents, students, etc. Consult and or pass to Executive as necessary.
- Carry out student budget assessments.
- Be responsible for student fund releases in coordination with Program Assistant.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Supervise administrative staff directly or indirectly.

- Is an active team member in supporting and assisting the Executive and Program Assistant in the smooth functioning of the cycles of the Leadership Development program; honors the team’s experience, contributions and flexible to share responsibilities as needed.

- Experience working with a faith-based organization; otherwise openness to understand language and culture of the same.
- Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy and patience.
- Is conscious of and respects the differing cultural, language, religious and political contexts of our constituents, partners and staff members.
- Is conscious and respectful of the challenges faced by the majority of our students who come from challenging contexts; is willing to advocate on their behalf when they are faced with difficulties.
- Is extremely detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision on a daily basis; is able to carry projects forward, once understood, without being pushed. Keeps supervisor informed of developments and/or issues as needed and/or during scheduled check-ins.
- Will guide and support the Program Assistant in the overall tasks of the application cycle. Share in the responsibilities of the workload as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in a scholarship or grant-giving setting preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English.
- Proficiency (written and verbal) in either French or Spanish a must. Some knowledge of Portuguese a plus.
- Familiarity with advanced studies terminology – degree programs, majors, academic calendar.
- Extremely detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision on a daily basis; carries work through to completion; reports important information as necessary for clarity of the team.
- Millennial-style full conversance and ease in maneuvering through digital application system; takes responsibility to trouble shoot and problem solve with tech support as needed.
- Expertise and comfort in maneuvering through Word, Excel. Will train seamlessly in our developing database system linking application system to fund release systems.
- Skills in logistics of event organizing. Partial focus of program will be on facilitating connections with students in groups to trainings and gatherings, as well as linking and setting up opportunities for students to connect to conferences and other leadership development events. Identify opportunities that may come our way for possible connections as they arise.
- Be thinking of connective links, guaranteeing the sharing of scholars’ information across offices in Global Ministries, across the church, and facilitate their participation in conferences/events/training and with other vital networks.
This position is expected to begin in August/September and is based in Atlanta.
