This is a key position inside the Welcome Center as he/she will be the first point of contact to all visitors, families and students. Mission Statement: At Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School, families, educators and community members will join together to create a supportive and rigorous academic environment. Through the pursuit of 21st century learning, project based & service learning, and traditional coursework strategies, students will be prepared to succeed in academically competitive schools as well as become responsible citizens of the global community.
Our History and Our Future: BSNBCS opened its doors in September 2010 to serve families in Community School District 16, which is located in the neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. We currently serve grades K-7 (our final grade with be 8th grade, in 2015-16). Service Learning is a central tool that we use to anchor academic learning in real-world problem solving and empowerment for our students. We use Response to Intervention to identify and respond to our students’ academic, emotional and behavioral needs. As a professional community, we value hard work, collaboration, and professional development.


Major Duties and Responsibilities :


  • Maintain student files and information system (electronic and paper)

  • Student attendance – daily and period attendance entry

  • Meal accountability tracking

  • Daily transportation changes tracking and afternoon bus duty

  • Occasional assistance with coverage of recess, lunch time meal tracking, and front desk support

  • ATS reports

  • General support for the main office team and Director of Operations with a variety of tasks that include managing projects, working with outside vendors, teachers and families.

  • Answering phones, greeting visitors, and handling a wide variety of family concerns and situations.

  • Any additional responsibilities identified by the Director of Operations, Operations Manager, Executive Director and School Management Team

Qualifications:


  • Demonstrates urgency in his/her drive to support and serve the school community

  • Support faculty, scholars and families with a superior level of customer service, enabling teachers and school leaders to focus exclusively on teaching and learning

  • Analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Implement and enhance the school’s systems and culture

  • Capability to work collaboratively, respectfully and joyfully with families, local organizations and businesses

  • Commit to continual professional growth

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Displays maturity and ability to work independently

  • Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meets tight deadlines

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Welcoming and positive presence

  • Organization and follow through

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office, Google Apps. ATS and SIS systems, a plus

  • Biliterate: English/Spanish strongly preferred

  • Previous school experience a plus**
