Senior Associate, UNICEF Relations & Program Strategy – Global Programs & Field Engagement


The key function of the Global Programs & Field Engagement Department (GPFE) is to ensure efficiency and effectiveness as it relates to UNICEF engagement, proposal and report development, field visits, and the provision of UNICEF program information and resources. The unit advises and supports staff across the organization to achieve maximum reach and impact on fundraising, advocacy, and education goals.


The UNICEF Relations & Program Strategy team’s role is to strengthen relationships and coordinate engagements between UNICEF program experts (at headquarters, regional, and country levels) and USF constituents to help achieve the USF’s fundraising, education, and advocacy goals. This team creates, manages, and disseminates knowledge, information, and assets on UNICEF programs and funding priorities; and educates staff on UNICEF.


Reporting to the Assistant Director, UNICEF Relations & Program Strategy of the GPFE department, the Senior Associate contributes to the department’s and overall organization’s mission and goals.


Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):


UNICEF Relations and Engagement



  • Work with USF staff to identify and effectively engage UNICEF technical experts in strategic donor/partner opportunities, including speaker series events, meetings, and special events such as Snowflake Ball and the USF Annual Meeting




  • Project manage engagements including tracking of return on investment




  • Maintain and grow pool of UNICEF speakers



UNICEF Education and Program Guidance



  • Implement the education and training program for USF staff which includes researching UNICEF program issues; writing/editing educational materials; developing syllabi and training agendas; designing activities; administrative planning; and conducting the trainings




  • Organize an annual program workshop, in addition to ongoing smaller trainings for new staff and departmental retreats




  • Regularly host program briefings featuring UNICEF colleagues




  • Give presentations on UNICEF’s mandate, structure, programs, and funding needs to USF staff and other constituents, including external partners



UNICEF program content acquisition, management, and dissemination



  • Stay abreast of the situation for children and women in development and humanitarian settings; track UNICEF program developments, approaches, strategies, and funding needs




  • Serve as resource on UNICEF programs and the situation for children, including writing and editing UNICEF program briefs, talking points, and fact checking




  • Assist in writing and producing the team’s monthly staff bulletin on UNICEF programs and funding needs




  • Ensure materials on the department knowledge management site are comprehensive, salient, and up-to-date




  • Answer inquiries and provide materials for USF staff through the department’s service desk



Qualifications :



  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years related experience




  • Knowledge on UNICEF, the United Nations, public health, international development, humanitarian affairs, and/or other issues related to UNICEF’s core mandate




  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)




  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills




  • Ability to digest a large breadth and depth of technical program information and convey it in a simple and compelling way to USF constituents




  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and document management




  • Strong public speaking skills; experience teaching, mentoring, or speaking to large groups




  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines and work creatively and flexibly to adapt to changing priorities (e.g., humanitarian emergencies)




  • Adept with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point; ability to lay out basic text and images in Word and Power Point; and other platforms including WebEx, SharePoint, MailChimp, FreshDesk, etc.
