Brewer - Gordon Biersch - San Jose, CA

Salary Exempt Position: Brewer Department: Brewery Division Reports to: Director of Brewing Job Accountabilities: Brew beer according to creative licensing and special knowledge of technique. Supervise all training of assistant brewers, sanitation and safety procedures, while promoting beer through marketing and restaurant functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Brew original beers according to demographics and promotional needs. Maintain brewery, BATF, inventory and brew sheet paperwork. Operate brew equipment to maintain acceptable inventory of raw materials and beer. Supervise cleanliness & sanitation of all equipment, tanks and work areas to maintain consistent beer quality. Schedule work for brewers while maintaining budgeted labor costs on a weekly basis. Attend management meetings to update in-house managers on brewery issues on a weekly basis. Fundamental knowledge of plumbing and machinery mechanics/maintenance. Possess basic beer knowledge and a good sense of smell, distinguishing flavors, and colors in beer. OTHER DUTIES: Beer brewed according to CraftWorks standards and philosophy, as need dictates. Train assistant brewers, using the MGD program, to become head brewers and/or workat a level consistent with brewery production. Research, technical and piloting specialties on an ongoing basis. Train staff in beer knowledge at daily sales meetings. Participate in beer dinners and festivals, customer relations and marketing. Job qualifications: Essential Skills & Experience: 3+ years of brewing experience in micro brewery. Experience brewing British-style ales. Experience in Cask-conditioning of ales. Ability to work and communicate well with others. Know Microsoft office programs. Organized and detail oriented. Ability to problem-solve and get assistance as needed. Capable of speaking in front of a small group of people as an instructor. Education: Education at an accredited brewing school preferred. Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job.
