TOURISM INFORMATION COUNSELOR 1 - Louisiana State Government - Greenwood, LA

LOCATION & POSITION INFORMATION:
This is a part-time position located at Greenwood Welcome Center in Greenwood, LA and will be limited to a work schedule not to exceed 20 hours per week. DUTIES: Meet and greet the general traveling public, welcoming them to Louisiana. Provide appropriate answers to questions and general information (including directions) on attractions, tours, restaurants, parks, museums, and other places of interest to visitors. Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays, as deemed necessary.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in tourism information work, public relations, customer service, or teaching. SUBSTITUTIONS: College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience. NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.


Job Concepts:
FUNCTION OF WORK: To provide information to tourists and to perform incidental clerical and custodial functions.


LEVEL OF WORK: Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Close from a Tourism Supervisor or higher level staff.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

LOCATION OF WORK: Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Tourism – Welcome Centers statewide.

JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Tourism Information Counselor 2 by the degree of supervision received and the absence of experienced level duties.

Answers questions from visitors, by phone and mail, regarding the state, its history and its culture.


Conducts research by reading industry publications, visiting travel websites and consulting with others to keep abreast of upcoming events and to broaden knowledge of the state.


Participates in educational study tours.


Keeps daily records or files; stocks brochure racks; orders supplies/brochures; performs other clerical duties.


Attains CPR certification and becomes re-certified annually.
